Why is The Silver Purse especially for women?
Helping women build financial security
Women face more financial challenges in life than men do. As a group, women earn less
than men over their lifetimes, often taking time off to raise children or putting the needs of
others before their own.

Women also live longer, needing more savings overall. They don't participate in employer
plans as often as men, which reduces their retirement savings. In addition, women often say
they feel intimidated by the financial world, with its sales pressures and complexity.

These factors contribute to more poverty for women than men. A 2006 census found that
12% of all women over age 18 in the US live in poverty. And when one jumps to the category
of single minority women over age 65, the figure rises as high as 40% living in poverty in the
US--a quiet tragedy for our society!

While I love guys, especially the supportive husband, son and brothers in my life, we "girls"
still need a place of our own to learn about finance. Women often prefer their financial
education delivered in a fresh way, with less emphasis on building "wealth" and more
emphasis on reaching one's goals or helping the family unit.

It's my hope that with motivation, early planning, and a little education, more women will be
able to avoid the trap of poverty and live a fuller, financially secure life.

This website is dedicated to the wonderful women in my life--daughter, sister, mother,
nieces and friends.
